1930’s Moscow. A promising young writer at the height of his career finds himself in the middle of a scandal of both literary and political nature – his new novel is being crushed by harsh idealistic critics, who say that his vivid depiction of Christ is absolutely unacceptable in the atheistic Soviet Union. The theatrical premier of the writer’s play is canceled, his colleagues and friends avoid him like the plague, and in just a few short days the writer becomes an outcast.
Soon after, the writer meets a beautiful married woman by the name of Margarita. They have no conceivable future together, but what does that matter in the face of true love? Inspired by these feelings the writer gets to work on a new novel in which Moscow is visited by a mysterious dark magician who goes by the name of Woland, accompanied by an entourage of bizzare characters.
Equally comic and horrifying ,Woland’s goal is to bring everyone that has wronged the writer to justice, and to grant the writer and Margarita - a possibility of love. Engrossed by this new story the writer begins to lose grip on reality, leading the real world and fiction to merge into one.
